Islamic finance is gaining ground in various jurisdictions, including the Netherlands. To fully benefit from the (inter)national opportunities Islamic finance has to offer, active government support, as seen in the UK, France and Luxembourg, is a must to further develop this form of sustainable financing.
The purpose of this seminar is to further discuss the opportunities, issues and challenges of Islamic finance.
Chairman of the seminar will be Salim Rabbani, chairman of the Netherlands-Middle East Business Council.

16:30 – 17:00 David Testa, CEO of Gatehouse Bank, elaborating on Islamic finance opportunities in Europe.
17:00 – 17:30 Kees Hooft and Niels Muller, heading Loyens & Loeff's Islamic finance team, discussing the Dutch tax and legal aspects of Islamic finance.
17:30 – 18:00 Willem Wolters, emeritus-Professor of Economic Anthropology, Radboud University Nijmegen, presenting the first copy of his book 'Islamic Finance between Principles and Reality' (in Dutch) to Joost van der Does de Willebois, chairman of the Amsterdam stock exchange, board member of NYSE Euronext and Holland Financial Centre.
18:00 - 18:30 The presentation of the book will be followed by a panel discussion featuring among others the following (additional) panellists:
- Speaker from the Netherlands Authority for Financial Markets, to be confirmed
- Robert Kranenborg, Dutch Revenue Service, chairman of the real estate knowledge group
- Natalie Schoon, Head of Product Development, Bank of London and the Middle East (London)
