Dubai Islamic Bank ratings affirmed by Moody's

Dubai Islamic Bank Group (DIB) today announced that its Long Term Issuer ratings have been affirmed by Moody’s at Baa1 and the outlook has been moved to “Stable”. The confirmation of DIB’s ratings reflects the recent capital injection and the expectation that asset quality pressure will ease which, in turn, should support profitability, according to Moody's. Morover, the systemic importance of the bank to the banking sector and the government ownership of 34% were also cited as some of the factors for the decision. Moody’s also affirmed the long term issuer ratings of Tamweel, which is a subsidiary of the bank (86.5% owned by DIB) at Baa3 and with the recent move by DIB to take over the company, Tamweel’s outlook on ratings has been upgraded to “Positive.”

DIB eyes acquisitions in Asian markets

Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) is anxious to expand but is being held back in part by the unrest dominating the Middle East, according to its CEO Abdulla Al-Hamli. The bank expects to see close to 17 percent growth in net profit this year. DIB shares are up 43 percent so far this year to 2.88 dirhams, giving it a market capitalization of about AED 10.9 billion. After the global credit crisis the bank cut real estate investment to 27 percent of its portfolio from 45 percent in 2008. DIB’s non performing loans peaked at 14.5 percent after the crisis and dropped to 12 percent by the end of 2012. DIB is considering its expansion into Asian markets like Malaysia, Indonesia and India.

DIB repays Finance Ministry

Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) has repaid the Dh3,752,543,000 deposit, in full and well ahead of contractual maturity which it received from the Ministry of Finance in 2008. In March 2013, Dubai Islamic Bank announced the successful pricing of a US$1 billion Tier 1 Capital-eligible issuance, with a perpetual (non-call 6) maturity which will provide a significant boost to the current Tier 1 Capital ratio. For the 12 months ended December 31, 2012, DIB group reported a net profit of Dh1.19 billion, compared to Dh1.05 billion in 2011, an increase of 13 per cent while the bank continues to boast one of the best liquidity ratios (88.7% as December 2012) in the market.

Dubai Islamic Bank prices $1bn 6.250% Tier 1 Capital issuance

Dubai Islamic Bank announced the successful pricing of a $1bn Tier 1 Capital-eligible issuance, with a perpetual (non-call 6) maturity. The issuance carries a profit rate of 6.25%, which represents the best yield ever achieved by a GCC bank on public Tier 1 transaction. The transaction was allocated to investors across the Middle East (38%), Asia (29%), Europe (29%) and US Offshore (4%). In addition, the types of accounts were also well balanced, with Banks (33%), Private Banks (32%), Fund Managers (29%), Hedge Funds (5%) and Other (1%) investors anchoring the orderbook. Dubai Islamic Bank, Emirates NBD Capital, HSBC, National Bank of Abu Dhabi and Standard Chartered Bank acted as Joint Lead Managers on the offering.

Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) plans to boost its capital through the sale of a sharia-compliant debt instrument. DIB will hold investor meetings in Asia, the Middle East and Europe starting on March 7 ahead of issuing the dollar-denominated, benchmark-sized hybrid sukuk, subject to market conditions. The bank hopes to raise at least $500 million from the sale, but the final size will depend on demand. Emirates NBD, HSBC Holdings, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Standard Chartered and the bank itself were chosen to arrange the deal.

Dubai Islamic Bank publishes formal offer for Tamweel

Following approval from the Securities and Commodities Authority, Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) has published its formal offer for the shares in Tamweel. Tamweel shareholders will receive 10 new DIB shares for 18 Tamweel shares. They will receive a copy of the offer, the offer statement and the acceptance form by mail and can accept until 5pm on Saturday, March 16. DIB’s offer is subject to final approval from its shareholders and will be presented to them at an extraordinary general meeting to be held on March 3.

Gulf banks give Sudan banks a boost

Dubai Islamic Bank, Sharjah Islamic Bank and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank are more than tripling Bank of Khartoum’s capital to around $225 million after it gained a short-term ‘A-1’ rating from The Islamic International Rating Agency last week. Bank of Khartoum’s General Manager Fadi Faqih said its bank wants to boost its agricultural finance business by preparing a fund to attract direct investment from mainly Gulf banks to invest into Sudan's agricultural sector. Bank of Khartoum also plans to arrange Sukuk for corporate clients in the infrastructure and utility sector for some 150 million pounds this year.

Dubai Islamic Bank 2012 net profit rises to Dhs1.19bn

Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) group announced its financial results for last year, reporting a net profit of Dhs1.19bn, an increase of 13% compared to 2011. DIB's Board of Directors also recommended the distribution of a cash dividend of 15%, subject to regulatory and general assembly approvals. In general, the financial results show healthy growth across the bank's operations, confirmed by Fitch Ratings recently, that gave the bank a Long-term Issuer Default Rating at 'A' with a stable outlook.

Dubai Islamic Bank to take over 100% of Tamweel

The Dubai Islamic Bank PJSC (DIB) intends to acquire 100 per cent of Tamweel PJSC, the UAE-based Islamic home finance provider. DIB is the major shareholder of Tamweel, and will offer the other shareholders ten DIB shares for every 18 Tamweel shares. After approval by all regulators the date of the offer will be communicated individually to all Tamweel shareholders giving them adequate time to respond.

Fitch affirms Dubai Islamic Bank at 'A'

Fitch Ratings has affirmed Dubai Islamic Bank’s (DIB) Long-term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at ‘A’. This is due to the bank’s systemic importance and the Dubai government’s 30 per cent stake. Hence, there is a high probability of support from UAE authorities if needed. The bank’s Viability Rating (VR) at ‘bb’ reflects the domestic operating environment and DIB’s asset quality among others. The Long-term IDR is expected to be stable.

Dubai to issue 10-yr dollar sukuk Tuesday - leads

The Government of Dubai mandated five banks to arrange a benchmark-sized, dollar-denominated Islamic bond which is expected to price on Tuesday in the low four percent area. The mandated banks to arrange the deal are Dubai Islamic Bank, Emirates NBD, HSBC Holdings, National Bank of Abu Dhabi and Standard Chartered.

UPDATE 1-Dubai Islamic Bank to fully acquire mortgage firm Tamweel

On Thursday , Dubai Islamic Bank announced its board's approval of the plans to fully acquire its mortgage unit Tamweel. The bank already holds 58.2% of the stakes. It further intends to make a tender offer to buy all shares off Tamweel's other shareholders. Every shareholder of Tamweel will be offered 10 DIB shares for every 18 Tamweel shares. As soon as the offer is closed, DIB will make an application to the regulator to delist Tamweel from the Dubai Financial Market.

Arab investors mull legal action over $516m fund

Arab investors in a €400m (US$516m) French property fund operated by Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) are seriously thinking about legal action because they have received neither any dividend nor audited financial statements on the fund's status for the last three years. The launch of the Al Rayyan II French Property Fund took place in 2005. It is managed by Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) on behalf of DIB. The fund was used to invest in several income-producing properties in France. Initially, a yearly return of around 8% was given to the investors.

Thalassemia medical centre has acquired a Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography (TCD) machine that can help prevention of stroke in patients with sickle cells as a donation from the Dubai Islamic Humanitarian Foundation and Dubai Islamic Bank. The center registers over 150 sickle cell patients who will benefit from a new machine.

It seems that Dubai Islamic Bank has issued a $500 million (Dh1.8 billion), five-year sukuk sale after gaining good request.
Helping arrange the Regulation S transaction, after DIB met fixed-income investors in Asia, Middle East and Europe over the past few days, are: Deutsche Bank, DIB, Emirates NBD, HSBC and National Bank of Abu Dhabi.
