#1MDB: #Malaysia’s biggest scam?

Malaysia has been rocked for more than a year by a financial scandal involving Prime Minister Najib Razak, a state investment firm, and an alleged frenzy of embezzlement. Authorities in a half-dozen countries have launched investigations into suspicions that several billion dollars was looted from complicated financial transactions involving 1MDB and parked around the world. Over the past year, Najib has purged 1MDB critics from his cabinet, curbed domestic investigations, and moved to prevent further discussion of the scandal. Najib has dramatically strengthened his control of the country. A state-level election and two parliamentary by-elections were won handily by Najib's ruling coalition, further bolstering his position.

Dubai Islamic Bank publishes formal offer for Tamweel

Following approval from the Securities and Commodities Authority, Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) has published its formal offer for the shares in Tamweel. Tamweel shareholders will receive 10 new DIB shares for 18 Tamweel shares. They will receive a copy of the offer, the offer statement and the acceptance form by mail and can accept until 5pm on Saturday, March 16. DIB’s offer is subject to final approval from its shareholders and will be presented to them at an extraordinary general meeting to be held on March 3.

Dana Gas restructures sukuk

Dana Gas will pay $70 million in cash to bondholders and offers aditionally 8% coupon on remaining debt in order to buy time to restructure its sukuk. The company is facing difficult times as it missed a bond redemption on its sukuk that has matured on October 31. In order to fix this problem, Dana has made an agreement with adhoc committee of creditors, and thus earned time to restructure its finances.
